Lesson Plan
Hey guys! For the lesson plan, I'm going to focus my lesson around creating menus. I just wanted to make sure that we don't do the same lesson plans or anything! :)

reading reflection 3
No teacher should begin planning a project without having the core concepts and processes in place. This is talked about in chapter three as "the big idea." Look at the teaching guides and curriculum standards for your subjects and ask: "What do these add up too?" You really want to look at what you want your students to get out of project.
We also need to think about how these projects will help students develop 21st-century. This involves thinking about the important skills, attitudes, and habits of mind projects might involve. Students should be challenged to "stretch their intellectual muscles." One way to make sure this happens is to follow Bloom's Taxonomy of Educational Objectives. This focuses on the fact that kids remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, and create.
Today's learners need to be prepared for the world beyond school. This involves teaching 21st-century skills and literacies. This includes digital-age literacy, inventive thinking, effective communication, and high productivity. Literacy is defined as the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate, and compute using printed and written materials associated with varying contexts. Today's learners need to be independent, aware, and productive citizens.
Chapter three lists eight essential learning functions. The first is ubiquity. This includes learning inside and outside the classroom, and all the time. This involves giving learners the tools to learn wherever they are and with whomever they want. The second function is deep learning. This means going beyond "filtered information. Higher order thinking is engaged when students have to "navigate and sort, organize, analyze, and make graphical representations in order to learn and express learning. Third is making things visible and discussable. This is as simple as " a picture is worth a thousand words." The fourth function is expressing ourselves, sharing ideas, and building a community. We need to find ways for students to use the Web to express their ideas and build society shared interests. The fifth is collaboration-teaching and learning with others. Projects naturally invite collaboration. Working well with others is essential in the real world. The sixth function is research. This is a necessary skill with 21st-centry projects. Help students organize what they need from the Web. Seventh is project management. This includes planning and organization. This helps students manage their time. Lastly is reflection and iteration. Ideas should be looked at from all sides and all points of view.
All of the concepts in this chapter should be reflected in our projects. We should have the big idea in mind before we begin our projects. We need to think about how our projects are related to the real world and how we can get the students to acquire 21st-century skills and literacies. Our student will be using the Web and should know how to organize the information they find. We as teachers need to engage higher order thinking to engage our students so that a deeper learning environment is created.

reading reflection 3
Reviewing
and understanding standards for subjects that will institute the framework for
the curriculum needed to be taught.
Meeting with other teachers will help bring idea and different viewpoints
but also a way to check that everything is being covered in a timely
manner. The “big idea” when creating or
working on projects is creating something that is related to the real world and
will engage students’ interest and at the same time teaching real life skills
and lessons.
With a needed change for rigor in regards to 21st-
century still, there is more to subject mastery that students do not see when
learning; like the skills, habits, and attitude needed. Reorganizing the objectives, this different
thinking can change the way students approach and look at learning. This idea is similar to Bloom’s Taxonomy of
categorizing objectives from lower-order to higher order. Bloom’s order of categorizes is remembering,
understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating. The definition of literacy has changed since
the rise of technology and not being literate no longer means being able to
just read and write.
There are several essential learning functions needed to the 21st
century the first being ubiquity, tool that students can use for learning
inside and outside the classroom. The
second is deep learning, apply Bloom’s taxonomy way of categorizing; students
will apply these steps/levels when they read or interact with information to
get though the raw data provided and make something of it. The next is making things visible and
discussable, this is the first step in a conversation. The next is expressing ourselves, sharing
ideas, and build communities; with the wide use of Facebook and other social
networks, people are publishing their ideas more and sharing and expressing
more ideas, this can be so useful in the classroom. The 5th learning function is
teaching and learning with others; expose students to community because they
can learn so much from others, and a great way to do this is through
surveys. Research is invulnerable part
of the 21st- century projects, so much learning is done through
researching and this had become so much easier thanks to the internet. Project management: planning and organization
is so important for students in regards to managing all aspects of any projects. The final function is reflection and
interaction; students learning the most when the process the information they
are given and reflect on the work they have done.
This chapter has given me ideas, some that just seem like common
sense but I never really thought of them in this way. Thinking of teaching in the 21- century is
thinking of different ways to bring real life into the class. When I was in school, we always did out-of-dated
projects that never seemed to have any relevance to the real world, only to the
standardized tests. By exploring other medias
and even combining them you can bring a different element to any project.
review & edit
take a look at the Google docs and feel free to make any changes!!
Same with the map!
